1. What this page covers
This policy applies to the My English Sarah Kids website (kids.myenglishsarah.com) when you visit it in a web browser: the public pages, the sign-in, subscription and payment pages, and the Parent Area. It complements our Privacy Policy, which explains how we use personal data in general.
This policy does not apply to the My English Sarah Kids mobile apps. The apps do not use the measurement or advertising technologies described here and contain no advertising SDK; the Privacy Policy explains what the apps process.
3. Necessary cookies
The website cannot work without these, so they are always used and cannot be switched off in the banner. They are not used for measurement or for advertising.
- __Host-mes_parent_at — keeps the parent signed in. At most 1 hour.
- __Host-mes_parent_rt — renews the session without asking for the password again. 30 days.
- __Host-mes_parent_did — a random code identifying the browser you signed in on, to protect the session. 1 year.
- __Host-mes_parent_csrf — protects forms against forged requests. 12 hours.
- mes_parent_locale — remembers the language you chose (Arabic, English or French). 1 year.
- mes_consent and mes_marketing_consent — remember your Measurement choice and your Marketing choice from the cookie banner, with the date of the choice. 6 months each. They are set only if you have made a choice in the banner.
4. Measurement: our own cookie
To understand how families find and use our website, we measure visits ourselves: the pages visited, the buttons used, where the visit came from, the approximate country and the type of device. This covers only the public website and the sign-in, subscription and payment pages; the children’s areas and the rest of the Parent Area are never measured. These measurement records are not passed to Meta or to any advertising network.
The mes_vid cookie holds only a random code that tells a first visit from a returning one. It lasts at most 13 months, counted from the first visit and not extended by later ones. If you create an account or sign in on the website, that code is linked to your Parent Account.
When this cookie is not used — because you refused Measurement, or because you are in one of the banner countries and have not chosen yet — no measurement identifier is stored on your device. The visit is still counted, under a temporary anonymous key that changes every day, is not kept on your device, and is never linked to you or to an account.
5. Marketing and advertising: Meta
On our parent-facing website only, and where it is permitted for you (see sections 9 and 10), we use advertising technologies from Meta (Facebook and Instagram). The public home page loads the Meta Pixel, which tells Meta that the page was viewed: the page address with its campaign tags, the page you came from, your IP address and browser details. The Pixel is not used on any other page of the website. We have switched off its automatic collection of button clicks and page content, and we do not give it your email address or any detail from your account.
Meta uses this information, for us and under its own policies, to measure our advertising, attribute sign-ups and purchases to it, build audiences for our adverts — including Custom Audiences and Lookalike Audiences — and improve who sees them.
- _fbp — an identifier the Meta Pixel sets to recognise the browser. Its lifetime is set by Meta: 90 days according to Meta’s own published information.
- _fbc — keeps the click identifier when you reach us by clicking one of our adverts on Meta. Its lifetime is set by Meta: 90 days according to Meta’s own published information.
6. What our server reports to Meta
Not everything goes through your browser. On the same conditions, our server may report three events — and only these — directly to Meta (through its Conversions API) when they happen on the website: a Parent Account being created, a checkout being started, and a plan being bought.
- The parent’s email address, only after it has been normalised and turned into a cryptographic hash (SHA-256); the readable address is not sent. Meta may match it with an account it holds.
- Meta’s identifiers from your browser (_fbp and _fbc) where we have them, your browser type and — only for events that happen while you are on the site — your IP address. We do not keep the IP address with these reports ourselves.
- Information about the event: what it was and when, the plan, the amount and currency, the order reference, the market (Tunisia or international) and the payment method.
- Nothing about children: no name, no age, no Child Profile, no progress, no lesson results, no pronunciation.
7. Browser storage
We also keep a few small things in your browser’s storage. All of them are needed for the website to work; none is used for measurement or advertising.
- mes-landing-locale (local storage) — the language you chose. Kept until you clear your browser data.
- mes-demo-session (session storage) — a random code that limits the number of attempts in the home page’s pronunciation demo. Erased when the tab is closed.
- parent-catalog-currency and mes_parent_email_locale_synced (session storage) — the currency shown, and a marker that your email language has been saved. Erased when the tab is closed.
- mes_app_view (session storage) — a marker that the page was opened from inside our mobile app, so that nothing is measured there and no advertising technology is used. Erased when the page is closed.
8. Other companies’ technologies on the website
Some features of the website are provided by other companies. They receive what they need to provide their service and may use cookies or storage of their own, under their own policies.
- Bunny Stream (bunny.net) — the video player on the home page and the getting-started page. It receives the IP address and browser details needed to play the video, and may keep player settings such as volume and quality in storage of its own.
- Google — when you choose “Sign in with Google” on the sign-in page, Google’s sign-in tool is loaded, and Google may use cookies of its own.
- Apple, Stripe and Flouci — when you sign in with Apple or pay, you are taken to these companies’ own pages. What happens there is governed by their policies, not by this page.
9. Your choices where the banner is shown
If you visit the website from a country of the European Union, or from Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the cookie banner appears. Nothing beyond the necessary cookies is used until you choose: you can accept everything, refuse everything that is not necessary, or decide on Measurement and Marketing separately. The two choices are independent: accepting one does not accept the other.
We remember your choices for 6 months and then ask again. When you are signed in, your Marketing choice is also saved on your Parent Account, so that it applies to purchases confirmed after you have left the website.
10. Where no banner is shown
In every other country — including Tunisia — no banner is shown and you are not asked. Our own measurement cookie and Meta’s technologies may be used automatically, under our regional policy. We do not treat this as your consent, do not record it as consent, and set no cookie saying that you accepted.
Your approximate country is determined from your IP address; if it cannot be determined, the visit is treated as coming from outside the countries listed in section 9. If you refused in the banner and later visit from another country, your refusal still holds. And if you sign up, sign in or start a checkout from outside those countries, we note on your Parent Account that it was seen on the website from outside them, with the country and the date, so that a purchase confirmed later can be reported; that note is removed if your account is later seen from one of those countries without your having chosen.
11. Changing your mind
Where the banner is shown, you can change your choices at any time from “Cookie preferences” at the bottom of the website’s pages. If you refuse Measurement, the mes_vid cookie is deleted. If you refuse Marketing, the Meta Pixel stops at once, the Meta identifiers we stored for your account are deleted and reports not yet sent are cancelled. What Meta has already received cannot be recalled by us.
Wherever you are, you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings — bearing in mind that blocking the necessary ones prevents signing in — and manage your advertising preferences in your Meta account. For any request about your data, contact us.
13. How long things are kept
Each cookie’s lifetime is given beside it above. On our servers, detailed measurement records are kept for 13 months, after which only monthly totals that identify no one remain. What we keep for the purposes of Meta — Meta’s identifiers from your browser and the record of the events reported — is kept only as long as that reporting needs, and is deleted when you refuse Marketing and when your account is deleted. What Meta has received is kept by Meta under its own policies.
14. Children and the Kids experience
The website this page describes is for parents. The children’s areas are not measured and no advertising technology is used in them: the Meta Pixel is not loaded in the Kids web app or in the mobile apps, a child is never asked about cookies, and nothing about a child’s activity or learning is sent to Meta.
15. Contact
For questions about cookies, or to exercise your rights over your data, use the Contact page or email support@myenglishsarah.com. We may update this page when the technologies we use change; when we do, the date at the top changes with it.
